Summary

Follow-up to #22. Move the core gem into its own structured_params/ folder, so the repository holds one folder per gem (structured_params/ and structured_params-openapi/), as sentry-ruby does. The repository root keeps what is shared: README, Gemfile, Rakefile, Steepfile, lefthook.yml and the RuboCop configuration.

Stacked on #22. The base is feature/openapi-drift-check, so this diff shows only the move. Once #22 is merged, retarget this PR to main.

  • lib/, sig/, spec/, docs/, structured_params.gemspec, CHANGELOG.md and .rspec move to structured_params/ (Git detects renames; no code changes).
  • Rakefile: spec:<gem> tasks per gem (rake spec runs both). structured_params/Rakefile provides build/install/release (bundler/gem_tasks); run them from that folder.
  • RuboCop: TargetRubyVersion: 3.2 is now explicit (it was inferred from the root gemspec), and the spec/documentation excludes match nested spec/ folders.
  • Gemfile, Steepfile, lefthook.yml, Procfile.dev, bin/console, README links, AGENTS.md and CONTRIBUTING.md follow the new paths.
  • .gitignore: pkg/ is ignored in every gem folder.

Release workflow changes (not exercised here)

tagging.yml and release.yml now use structured_params/lib/structured_params/version.rb and structured_params/CHANGELOG.md. The gem is built, and rubygems/release-gem runs, with working-directory: structured_params: the action runs bundle exec rake release there and then waits for pkg/*.gem in the same directory, and gem build must run next to the gemspec (from the root it cannot find the files). These paths can only be confirmed by a real release, so please review that part carefully.

Validation

  • bundle exec rake: RSpec core 183 + structured_params-openapi 83 examples, RuboCop, Steep all pass
  • lefthook pre-commit passes (rspec for both gems, rubocop, steep, rbs-inline)
  • rake build in structured_params/ produces the core gem with its 22 files (lib/, sig/, CHANGELOG.md, LICENSE.txt)
  • The OpenAPI drift check still runs against a real Rails app with the moved paths

Not in this PR

  • Release/tagging for structured_params-openapi (separate version, tag and CHANGELOG), which still has no workflow.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Updated project guides and documentation links to reflect the separate core and OpenAPI gem layouts.
    • Clarified how to run tests, generate type signatures, and use development tools across both gems.
  • Chores
    • Updated release and version-tagging workflows to work with the reorganized gem layout.
    • The root test task now runs both gems’ test suites; development watchers now monitor each gem.

Mirror structured_params-openapi/ so the repository holds one folder per gem
(as sentry-ruby does). The repository root keeps what is shared: README,
Gemfile, Rakefile, Steepfile, lefthook.yml and the RuboCop configuration.

- lib/, sig/, spec/, docs/, the gemspec, CHANGELOG.md and .rspec move to
structured_params/; git detects the files as renames
- Rakefile: spec tasks per gem and Bundler::GemHelper for the core gem, so
rake build/release keep acting on structured_params
- RuboCop: set TargetRubyVersion (it can no longer be inferred from a root
gemspec) and make the spec excludes match nested spec folders
- release/tagging workflows: new paths for the version file, CHANGELOG and
the gem build (run from the gem folder)
- README links, AGENTS.md, CONTRIBUTING.md, Procfile.dev, lefthook.yml updated

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The repository now configures its core and OpenAPI gems in separate directories. Build, test, development, release, and documentation paths were updated to match this layout.

Changes

Two-gem repository layout

Layer / File(s) Summary
Repository tasks and tool configuration
Rakefile, structured_params/Rakefile, Gemfile, Procfile.dev, Steepfile, lefthook.yml, bin/console, .rubocop.yml, .rubocop_rbs.yml, .gitignore
The root spec task now runs specs for both gems. Development watchers, signature generation, static analysis, console support, and ignore patterns use the updated directory layout.
Package and release paths
.github/workflows/release.yml, .github/workflows/tagging.yml, structured_params/structured_params.gemspec, structured_params/LICENSE.txt
Release steps update the core gem’s changelog and version file, and build and publish from structured_params. The gemspec changelog URL was updated, and an MIT license file was added.
Repository and contributor documentation
AGENTS.md, CONTRIBUTING.md, README.md, README_ja.md
Guides and README links now reflect the gem directories and the core gem’s documentation, test, and signature paths.

rubygems/release-gem waits for pkg/*.gem in its working directory, but the
gem is built under the gem folder's own pkg/. Give structured_params/ a
Rakefile with bundler/gem_tasks and run release-gem with
working-directory: structured_params instead of routing it through the root
Rakefile.

Replace stale root-level RSpec commands with the aggregate task.

Both instructions still direct contributors to run bundle exec rspec from the repository root. The root Rake task runs both gem suites with bundle exec rake spec.

4-4: 📐 Maintainability & Code Quality | 🔵 Trivial | 💤 Low value

Pass lib as the input directory.

The shell expands lib/**/*.rb only one directory level. It does not match files such as lib/structured_params/type/array.rb, which contains inline RBS annotations. rbs-inline accepts a directory input and processes it recursively.

Suggested fix
-      run: (cd structured_params && bundle exec rbs-inline --output=sig lib/**/*.rb) && (cd structured_params-openapi && bundle exec rbs-inline --output=sig lib/**/*.rb) && git add structured_params/sig/ structured_params-openapi/sig/

Update the `rbs-inline` invocations in the `run` command to pass the `lib`

nested Ruby files are processed recursively. Leave the existing output and

- lefthook ran `rbs-inline lib/**/*.rb` under sh, where ** matches a single
directory level, so nested files such as lib/structured_params/type/*.rb were
skipped (6 of 9 files). Pass the lib directory instead, which rbs-inline
processes recursively. Same change in CONTRIBUTING.md and AGENTS.md.
- Replace the root-level `bundle exec rspec` instructions with
`bundle exec rake spec`, which runs both gem suites.
