fix(virtual-core): stop an iOS fling for a command issued during it - #1332
Conversation
On iOS 27 a command issued during a fling waited for the tail to close, so a "jump to latest" tap did nothing until the list stopped. Hide the scroll element's overflow for two frames to stop the fling, restore the app's inline value, then write the command. A same-task toggle does not stop the fling (measured on an iPhone, 27.0.1). Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

- Line 2192: Update the overflow restoration around style.setProperty so it
restores the captured value only if the property still has the temporary hidden
!important value; preserve any newer application-set overflow-x or overflow-y
value.
- Around line 2182-2184: Update the momentum-stop flow around
`_momentumStopDone` to bind each pending stop and its frame callbacks to the
scroll element captured when the stop begins. In `_willUpdate()`, ensure a
replacement element starts its own two-frame stop and retains its queued command
for that stop; during `cleanup()`, cancel or invalidate the old stop and restore
the captured element’s overflow value and priority. Make stale callbacks no-ops
so they cannot clear or invoke a newer stop.

…er overflow Restore the inline overflow only while it still holds our hidden !important, so a value the app set during the two frames stays. cleanup restores a pending stop at once and drops it, so a replacement element starts its own stop and a stale frame callback does nothing. …, bounce or catch After the two frames, write only while the tail is still the fling's. A finger that came down keeps its gesture (ending it would let corrections write under a drag); a bounce or a fling stopped at speed keeps the tail rules that applied before the stop. Call `done` only when the restore finds our hidden !important still in place; an app that replaced it may have let the fling run, so the tail decides. Drop the `flingCaught` check after the stop: the stop itself ends the fling at speed, so one slow frame read as a catch and the tail then dropped the command. Summary
On iOS 27, a
scrollToIndex/scrollToOffset/scrollToEndissued during a fling waited for the fling to end (#1307 step 3). A "jump to latest" button outside the list did nothing until the list stopped. Now the command stops the fling first, then writes._startScroll (absolute, tail === 'fling', iOS 27) scrollState = { phase: 'queued' } + _stopMomentum + overflow-y: hidden !important # held through two frames + rAF → rAF + restore the app's inline overflow-y (value + priority) + (the app set a new one meanwhile: keep it, leave the command to the tail) + if still queued, tail still the fling's, no bounce: + end tail, flush hold, write command + else: leave it to the tail (as before) - (write when the tail closes, ~150ms after the last fling frame)flingCaughtcheck after the stop: the stop itself ends the fling at speed, so one slow frame (≥40ms) would read as a catch and the tail would drop the command. A finger that catches the fling within the two frames without moving it is therefore not detected; the write lands under it.hiddenelement produces scroll events on a device during the two frames is not verified.cleanup()restores a pending stop at once; a replacement element starts its own stop.stylekeeps the old wait for the tail.Evidence
Probe on an iPhone (iOS 27.0.1, element scroller): fling, then tap a button outside the scroller that writes
scrollTop = max.hidden+ reflow + restore in one task (+ write now / next rAF / 150ms later)hiddenheld through two rAFs, writeA same-task toggle never reaches the UI-process scroller; the style must survive a rendering update.
After: tap ↓ → the list stops and lands at the end at once (checked on the iPhone, first commit).

Door: two-way
Blast Radius: iOS-27-only
Applies only to an absolute command issued during a fling on iOS WebKit with
overflow-anchorsupport. For two frames the scroll element hasoverflow-y(oroverflow-xfor horizontal lists)hidden !importantinline; the app's own inline value and priority come back after. CSS or scripts that react to inline style changes on the scroller can see the flip. Not verified on a device: window scrollers (
document.scrollingElement; older iOS ignoredoverflow: hiddenonhtmlfor touch scrolling) and horizontal lists. The device probe and the chat example use a vertical element scroller.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
