Support MySQL JSON functions and null-safe equality - #582
Add JSON_LENGTH() with optional path support and JSON_MERGE_PATCH() using RFC 7396. Translate MySQL null-safe equality (<=>) to SQLite IS.
Keep JSON_UNQUOTE() and JSON_CONTAINS() compatible with MySQL, including canonical formatting for extracted arrays and objects, and nested-array containment checks. Direct JSON_UNQUOTE(JSON_EXTRACT(...)) calls support multiple paths, and JSON_MERGE_PATCH() follows MySQL SQL NULL semantics.
Before: Queries using JSON_UNQUOTE() and JSON_CONTAINS() fail because the functions are unavailable; <=> has no SQLite translation.
After:composer run test passes with 1,445 tests and 1,435,421 assertions; 2 tests are skipped and 2 are incomplete. PHPCS and PHPCompatibilityWP targeting PHP 7.2 pass on the changed files.
Merge Danger
Door: Two-way. Removing the registrations or operator translation restores failures for queries that use these features.
Blast Radius: Low. The changes affect queries that use these functions or the null-safe equality operator.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added support for MySQL JSON operations, including unquoting values, checking whether JSON contains a value, measuring JSON length, and applying merge patches. JSON paths can address object keys and array positions.
Added support for MySQL’s null-safe equality operator, which treats two NULL values as equal.
Add SQLite user-defined functions for the two MySQL JSON functions reported
in WordPress#571. Preserve NULL behavior, support JSON containment and optional paths,
and cover direct unquoting, JSON_EXTRACT values, and table queries.
FixesWordPress#571.
The SQL translator and PDO function registry add MySQL JSON function support and null-safe equality translation. Query tests cover JSON unquoting, containment, length, merge patches, and null-safe equality.

Register and implement JSON_UNQUOTE packages/mysql-on-sqlite/src/sqlite/class-wp-sqlite-pdo-user-defined-functions.php, packages/mysql-on-sqlite/src/sqlite/class-wp-mysql-on-sqlite.php, packages/mysql-on-sqlite/tests/WP_MySQL_On_SQLite_Query_Tests.php
The registry adds JSON_UNQUOTE and an extraction helper. The translator routes direct JSON_UNQUOTE(JSON_EXTRACT(...)) calls through that helper. Tests cover returned values, missing paths, and table rows.
Implement JSON containment and length packages/mysql-on-sqlite/src/sqlite/class-wp-sqlite-pdo-user-defined-functions.php, packages/mysql-on-sqlite/tests/WP_MySQL_On_SQLite_Query_Tests.php
JSON_CONTAINS supports recursive array, object, and scalar comparisons with an optional path. JSON_LENGTH counts array elements and object members, and returns 1 for scalar values. Tests cover results and invalid inputs.
JSON_MERGE_PATCH applies successive RFC 7396 patches and encodes the result. Tests cover deletion, nested and sequential patches, and null input; the same test block also checks JSON_LENGTH.
Issue 571 reports that queries using JSON_UNQUOTE and JSON_CONTAINS fail because SQLite does not recognize those functions. This change adds both functions and covers optional-path and candidate-type behavior.

Add focused regression coverage for the untested JSON branches.
The current tests cover successful calls only. They do not cover object candidates, nested candidate arrays, missing paths, invalid JSON, invalid or wildcard paths, or JSON_UNQUOTE()NULL and invalid-input behavior.
Add representative data-provider cases for these contracts and exception assertions. An exhaustive case for every listed variation is not required, but the project instruction requires tests for the newly added logic.

JSON_CONTAINS() returns 1 for nested-array candidates that MySQL rejects.
This is a pre-existing line in the diff but part of the PR's JSON_CONTAINS() feature. For an array target and an array candidate, the code recurses with the whole $target. It does not recurse with each target element. When a candidate element is itself an array, its members can then match in different target elements.
Example: JSON_CONTAINS('[[1,3],[2,4]]', '[[1,2]]'). MySQL returns 0, because [1,2] is not contained in [1,3] or in [2,4]. This code finds 1 in [1,3] and 2 in [2,4], so it returns 1.
Match each candidate element against individual target elements. The existing test nested array candidate passes with either version, so it does not catch this.
Add a test such as JSON_CONTAINS(JSON_ARRAY(JSON_ARRAY(1, 3), JSON_ARRAY(2, 4)), JSON_ARRAY(JSON_ARRAY(1, 2))) with expected result 0.

Handle multiple paths in JSON_UNQUOTE(JSON_EXTRACT(...)).
When JSON_EXTRACT has multiple paths, the translator skips _helper_json_unquote_extract(). The fallback uses SQLite's compact array result, such as [1,2], while MySQL returns the canonical result [1, 2]. The current tests do not cover this call shape.
Extend the helper to accept all paths, encode the matched values with json_encode_value(), and add a regression case.

Update `json_unquote_extract` to accept multiple paths, collect matched values,

Minor · JSON_MERGE_PATCH() returns NULL when a later… · class-wp-sqlite-pdo-user-defined-functions.php:1061-1083
JSON_MERGE_PATCH() returns NULL when a later non-object argument follows a NULL argument.
The loop returns null at the first SQL NULL argument. It does not check the arguments after it. MySQL returns NULL only when every argument after the last NULL is a JSON object. For JSON_MERGE_PATCH('{"a":1}', NULL, '2'), the argument after the last NULL is '2', which is not an object. MySQL does not return NULL in this case. The function returns NULL instead, so the result differs from MySQL.
Suggested fix
Find the index of the last NULL argument. Return null only when every later argument is an object. Otherwise, merge the arguments after that index, starting with the first of them as the base. Keep the existing count( $documents ) < 2 check and the JSON decoding of each argument.
Confirm the exact result for the sequential case against MySQL before you add a test that asserts it.
