Disk check for running services. The check measures the container's writable layer, plus any volumes the image declares (e.g. VOLUME /root), plus writable mounts. Volume sizes come from Docker's /system/df, because the node runs in Docker and can't see those host paths. A bucket mounted at /data/outputs and retained output archives are not counted.
Check interval adapts to usage. Every 30 s at low usage, 10 s at medium, 2 s near the limit, with jitter. A growth prediction shortens the wait when usage is climbing. At most 2 measurements run at once node-wide, and failures back off from 2 s to 30 s.
Status 76 when a service goes over quota. A disk stop behaves like Stopped: the reservation, expiresAt and payment are kept, the owner can restart (including RESPEC to a smaller model or template) or extend, and expiry moves it to Expired. Restart and extend can't raise disk.
No lifecycle lock while measuring. The service lock is only taken to stop an over-quota service, so owner stop, restart and extend never wait on a measurement.
SERVICE_START rejects a missing or zero disk when the environment has a disk resource. Without that, a service could avoid the check entirely.
Anonymous-volume leak fixed. Every service container removal, including network cleanup during crash recovery, now passes v: true. Previously each stop or restart left the image's volume on disk (20+ GB per ComfyUI).
Metrics report what the check measures. The service metrics snapshot now uses the disk check's usage and sends quotaBytes / usagePercent against the booked disk, so the dashboard gauge matches the number the node stops on. This also removes a duplicate size walk on each metrics tick.
Downstream
Status 76 must be added to ocean.js (ServiceStatusNumber), then nodes-dashboard and ocean-cli (labels, terminal/stopped sets, quota message).
Not covered yet
Container logs are neither capped nor counted (no LogConfig).
A measurement that keeps failing never stops the service (fails open).
Testing
New unit tests for quota stops, restart and extend on 76, measurement backoff, volume sizing, metrics reuse, disk ≤ 0 rejection, and volume removal.
Service + c2d unit suites: 462 passing.
Not yet verified on a real node.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Running services are monitored against their configured disk amount and stopped with a disk-quota status if they exceed it.
Disk-quota-stopped services can be restarted or extended before expiry, while their payment, resources, endpoints, and expiry remain reserved. These actions do not increase the paid disk amount.
Service starts require a positive disk amount when the environment defines a disk resource.
Restarting with a reused disk starts with a clean disk.
Disk-quota-stopped services appear in node-wide listings; stopping with release: true ends the paid window early.

Walkthrough
Running services are checked against their configured disk quota. Services that exceed it are stopped with status DiskQuotaExceeded, while their paid reservation remains active until expiry or early release. Service starts require a positive disk amount when the environment defines a disk resource.

This change stops services that exceed their disk quota while keeping the paid reservation. One minor issue remains: if Docker teardown keeps failing, the node retries every couple of seconds and can block the owner's restart or stop requests with "retry shortly". Add backoff to the retry loop, but this should not block merge.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Objective [#1535]: a running Service-on-Demand container must stay within its booked disk. If usage exceeds that disk, the service must be stopped or flagged.
Evidence at the reviewed head (merge base 98a6bc6 to head 48b60fb):
src/components/c2d/serviceDiskUsage.ts (read directly): measures the writable layer with Docker SizeRw. It adds writable bind mounts and named volumes. Volume sizes come from Docker /system/df. Read-only mounts, tmpfs, and the output-bucket mount are excluded. This covers the #1535 case, where the ComfyUI image declares VOLUME /root.
src/components/c2d/compute_engine_docker.ts (AI-generated summary only): running services with a positive disk quota are checked. When measured usage exceeds quota, the engine takes the service lifecycle lock, confirms the same container is still running, and stops the service with ServiceStatusNumber.DiskQuotaExceeded (76). The stop keeps the reservation and expiresAt.
src/components/core/service/startService.ts (AI-generated summary): rejects a missing or zero disk when the environment has a disk resource. A started service therefore has a positive quota to enforce.
Unit tests for quota stops, restart and extend on status 76, and disk <= 0 rejection are described in the PR and summaries. I did not run them.
Unresolved uncertainty:
The status-76 stop branch in compute_engine_docker.ts was not read directly. A diff read returned no content because changed blobs are missing from the checkout, and a file read was truncated at 16000 bytes. The stop behavior rests on the summary and the PR description.
The previous assessment also relied on these summaries. The current head equals a previously reviewed head, so no incremental change was found to reassess.
Disclosed residual gaps that do not defeat the core objective: a measurement that keeps failing never stops the service (fails open). Unsized mounts count as 0 and are reported as unmeasured. Container logs are neither capped nor counted.
Downstream work in ocean.js, nodes-dashboard, and ocean-cli is outside this repository and is not a coding requirement of this PR.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes support the #1535 runtime disk-enforcement objective, or they are tests or docs for it:
serviceDiskUsage.ts (read directly): measurement, adaptive polling, the two-slot measurement queue, the volume-size cache, and backoff. These implement the check.
ServiceStatusNumber.DiskQuotaExceeded (76), SERVICE_STOPPED_STATUSES, isStoppedLike, and terminationReason: the stop state. They keep the reservation, expiry, and payment in place so the stop does not release paid resources.
startService.ts disk <= 0 rejection: prevents a service from skipping the check.
Removing containers with v: true: removes anonymous volumes. Without this, the volume data from a previous run would count toward the next check and trip it again. This changes restart behavior: a reuse restart now begins with a clean disk. The PR discloses this change, and it follows from the check. It is a behavior change to note for reviewers, not a scope violation.
Metrics snapshot reuse of the disk-check sample: reports the same usage that enforcement uses. It also removes a duplicate size walk.
Docs (docs/API.md, docs/services.md) and integration test disk amounts: describe or support the new behavior.
I found no change with a concrete lack of connection to #1535. The compute_engine_docker.ts evidence is partly based on summaries, as noted in the linked-issue assessment.

Do not remove anonymous volumes in the shared service-stop path.
Quota and expiry stops reach c.remove({ force: true, v: true }). Docker removes image-declared anonymous volumes when v is true. ComfyUI stores downloaded models and service state in its image-declared /root volume. The stop path archives only /data/outputs, so these contents can be permanently deleted.

Overall risk: low
Summary:
This PR implements a comprehensive disk quota enforcement system for C2D services. It introduces background polling loops to dynamically measure disk usage (using Docker Inspect, API endpoints, and du), handles volume sizing, correctly manages node-wide caching/serialization of intensive daemon requests, and introduces a new DiskQuotaExceeded restartable state. The design is defensively coded, manages edge cases like clock drift and Docker daemon unavailability, and significantly improves resource hygiene by tearing down anonymous volumes.
Comments:
• [INFO][other] Excellent addition of v: true when removing containers here and throughout the file. This resolves a notoriously common Docker resource leak where anonymous volumes declared by image manifests (like ComfyUI models) are permanently left dangling on the host node.
• [INFO][performance] Great optimization here: passing options: { type: 'volume' } to the /system/df endpoint avoids forcing the Docker daemon to expensively recalculate the sizes of all live containers and images for daemons with API >= 1.42. Additionally, caching and sharing this result node-wide is a very well-thought-out concurrency approach.
• [INFO][security] Using execFile (which bypasses shell invocation) combined with the -- separator guarantees that the folder variable cannot be used for either command injection or option flag injection. Very secure implementation.
• [INFO][bug] Good use of the startsWith(other + path.sep) logic to deduplicate overlapping nested mount points. This ensures you only run du once on the parent root, saving I/O and strictly avoiding double-counting in usage billing.
• [INFO][style] Assigning retry to the self-referencing Promise and using it inside its own .finally() callback is technically safe here because of the Javascript microtask deferred execution, though occasionally it confuses linters. It works perfectly for this fire-and-forget cleanup mechanism.
Everything in this PR is robust, handles resource constraints safely, and includes an exhaustive test suite. LGTM!
