Read-only inspection and audit of the command namespace: name which, name conflicts (PATH import today).
Part of the OpenShellOrg command-namespace work: the shell finds commands in a hierarchical, task-shaped namespace instead of searching PATH.
Design seed: project-plans seed. Concept page: Command namespace and context requests.
Status: which and conflicts over a PATH import (v0).
name # help
name which git # what 'git' resolves to, and what it shadows
name conflicts # every name with more than one claim (exit 1 if any)
name --json which gitToday name imports only PATH (as legacy/…, see NS-5). Exit codes: 0 ok, 1 not found or conflicts, 2 usage error.
Build and test with LDC + dub: dub test, dub build.
Why name: it reads as a verb or a noun depending on the rest of the command (name which git asks what a name means; name conflicts lists names with more than one owner). No existing name command was found in WSL, pwsh or cmd, or in Debian, Ubuntu, Arch, Homebrew or PyPI (checked 2026-10-26).
