Summary

This repository runs against no live infrastructure. It has no Stackorder server, AWS account, role variables or GitHub environments, and it never will. Its stacks plan and apply only in the Stackorder end-to-end suite and the local demo, both against LocalStack.

  • stackorder-plan.yml and stackorder-run.yml stay as copyable reference wiring. Their jobs now skip themselves here through if: github.repository != 'stackorder/example-infra'. A copy in any other repository runs unchanged. Before this, every pull request ran a plan job per stack, and each failed at terraform init for lack of AWS credentials.
  • validate.yml is unchanged. It runs fmt, validate and the module tests without a backend.
  • The README says this once, in the intro. "Repository settings the workflows need" becomes "Settings for a repository that copies the workflows" and keeps every setting. The stackorder/actions row leaves "Tested versions", because nothing tests those workflows against this repository any more.

Verification

  • actionlint accepts the job-level if on reusable-workflow jobs.
  • terraform fmt -check -recursive passes.
  • The stackorder e2e suite passes against this branch with Terraform and OpenTofu.

Merge order

Merge this before stackorder/stackorder's test/drop-live-variant pull request, whose vendored copy of this README matches this branch.

Change: Bug fix

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to e8903

Plan and run jobs skip here while validation continues to run. No actionable merge-blocking risk remains.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 8cff5

The change disables both infrastructure workflows in this repository without increasing permissions or changing role selection in copies. Validation remains unchanged. No introduced or worsened security risk was identified in the reviewed change.

Retained concerns
No architecture-level concerns identified.

Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The changed eligibility affects only the repository named stackorder/example-infra. Copies do not gain new execution eligibility, token permissions, AWS roles, environments, or state-bucket access through this PR.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — The exclusion uses GitHub's repository context, not supplied dispatch inputs. The dispatch inputs still feed the same reusable workflow, and the existing token permissions and plan/apply role mappings are unchanged. This gate is a repository opt-out, not an authorization control for consuming repositories.

GitHub still creates a run of the Stackorder plan workflow on each pull
request; only its job is skipped by the repository guard.
